Bronchos Bounce Back Against FHSU

HAYS, Kan. (Sept. 22) – Karyn Chrisman, Haley Deschenes and Malia Kaaiohelo combined for 23 kills with no attack errors in leading Central Oklahoma to a rout of Fort Hays State here Saturday afternoon.

The No. 16-ranked Bronchos bowled over the Tigers 25-20, 25-14, 25-16 in bouncing back from a tough five-set loss at No. 6 Nebraska-Kearney Friday night.  It was the 15th win in 16 outings for UCO, now 16-3 on the season and 4-1 in league play.

"We did a good job putting last night's match behind us and came out with great energy today," head coach Edgar Miraku said.  "We were really efficient on offense.  It was a good road win."

Central hit a blistering .387 with 44 kills and a mere three errors in 106 attacks behind the dominating performances of Chrisman, Deschenes and Kaaiohelo.

Chrisman hit .571 with eight kills in 14 attempts, Deschenes had a .471 attack percentage with eight kills in 17 tries and Kaaiohelo knocked down seven kills in 15 attacks in hitting .467.

Taylor Bevis had a team-high 11 kills and nine digs.  Ericka Scholl dished out 24 assists and added two service aces, while Dominique Lipari had 18 digs.

The first set was tied 10-10 when Bevis sandwiched two kills around a Scholl ace as Central went up 13-10.  The Bronchos stayed safely in front the rest of the way and Bevis finished the set with six kills.

It was 2-2 early in the second set before UCO took charge with a 9-1 run and the Bronchos scored five unanswered points to overcome a 15-14 deficit in the final set.  Jordan Spence had three assisted blocks in that deciding run.

Central returns home Friday to continue conference play against Washburn.
