UCO To Honor 1998 Football Team October 6

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma athletics department will recognize on Saturday, Oct. 6, the 1998 football team with a celebration of the Bronchos' undefeated season 20 years ago.

Central Oklahoma went 13-0 that season. The Bronchos were 12-0 before falling in the NCAA Division football playoff quarterfinals, but a slew of ineligible players used by the opposing team was later deemed illegal and the win was forfeited. The 13 wins by UCO that season are the most ever in one season for the Bronchos.

UCO will recognize the team at halftime of the Bronchos' Homecoming game against Central Missouri, with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m. The team is being invited to attend the game and be guests of the new Sports Performance Center's Stampede Club Deck.

Coaches and players on that team are encouraged to contact Stampede Club Director Al Jones for information about attending the game.

UCO is also giving away replica jerseys from that season to the first 1,000 fans in attendance. The throwback look features a lighter blue with the old UCO logo and the number 98.
