Bronchos Finish Off Perfect Weekend

DURANT, Okla. (Sept. 1) -- No. 19-ranked Central Oklahoma overwhelmed Southern Arkansas to complete an undefeated weekend at the South Central Classic here Saturday night.

The Bronchos cruised to a 25-17, 25-17, 25-20 sweep for their sixth straight win, capping off a 4-0 weekend in ending a season-opening nine-match road swing.  Central, now 7-2 on the season, makes its home debut next weekend when it hosts the MIAA/GAC Challenge Friday and Saturday at Hamilton Field House.

"We had a great weekend," head coach Edgar Miraku said.  "We played pretty well overall and beat some good teams.  I'm really proud of the way the team responded after not playing very well last weekend and we made a lot of progress."

All-American Taylor Bevis continued to pace the Bronchos, collecting 17 kills, nine digs and four assisted blocks in the rout.  Karyn Chrisman and Malia Kaaiohelo chipped in five kills each and freshman Chloe Hancock added in her first extended action of the season.  Ericka Scholl directed the bulk of the offensive attack, racking up 29 assists in addition to serving up four aces.

Bevis had three kills early in the opening set as the Bronchos jumped on top 10-2 in quickly taking control of the match.  The second set was tied 11-11 when Bevis had three kills and combined with Kaaiohelo for a block to key a 5-0 run that made it 16-11 as UCO took command.

Scholl had a kill and ace to break a 9-all deadlock in the third set as Central closed out its sixth sweep of the year.
