Central O-Line Powers Record Setting Offense

The University of Central Oklahoma football team has practiced for the first of its three weeks of fall camp and concluded that first week with a scrimmage on Saturday night. The Bronchos open the 2018 season on Thursday, Aug. 30 at Pittsburg State. A position breakdown of the Bronchos continues with the offensive line and the H-backs.

Seventh-year head football coach Nick Bobeck is also the offensive line coach. The former fullback at Central calls himself a once glorified o-lineman so this is a crucial position for the Bronchos, who return three starters on the front line, as well as a starting H-back, or tight end.

Nick George returns at center after taking over the starting role there last year. He started all 12 games leading the record-setting Broncho offense in the trenches. And according to Bobeck, George is what makes everything go.

"That's the most important position on the offensive line for us because of what we do offensively," Bobeck said. "He's the whole thing. He sets the tempo, he sets everybody's alignment, he handles almost all of the communication."

Noah Hammons and Tyler Stilwell both are regular starters on the line and, like George, are both crucial to the offensive play development. Hammons has played in 30 games over the past three seasons and has started in each of the 23 games over the past two seasons. Stilwell became a starter as a sophomore and never looked back. He is a powerful blocker that creates space in the run game and time in the passing game.

Bobeck is looking to fill a couple of spots and is looking to do that with anyone who can step up and get the job done.

Elder statesmen Jacob Blair and David Seagle are getting ample opportunities, as are juniors Ben Raulston and Austin Steward III.

Bobeck will also look to use youngters Seth Carmack, Chase Slack, and J.W. Morrow to possibly see time in the rotation. All are redshirt freshmen and could fight for some starts this fall.

At H-back, Daxton Williams is the clear leader of the group. The junior has been a frequent contributor in the offense over the past two years. He and Marshall Tolson have seen increased playing time and offer Bobeck an extra blocker in multiple offensive packages. Daunte McGee is a redshirt freshman that will also see time this year. Bobeck calls him the most athletic of the bunch.

As kickoff approaches, the position-by-position breakdown of the Broncho football team turns now to defense. The defensive line and linebacker units are this week, while the secondary is scheduled for next week.
