No. 10 UCO Beats the Bearcats

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team beat Northwest Missouri 3-0 Friday evening in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association action.

Junior forward Asha Haile notched a brace with two scores – one in each half – and senior midfielder Camrie Hurst added a late goal to send the Bronchos to victory.

"I like that we got the win," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "We had a lot of chances to extend our lead in the first half and we didn't, but, we kept fighting and we got the win. At the end of the day, that's what matters. I was glad to see that extra effort late in the game to put it away. We played very well defensively again and that is our main goal. Now we need to be really focused on the next one."

Haile took her first shot on the day in just 21 seconds. Haile, who scored the fastest goal in UCO history earlier this season (54 seconds) kept the pressure on Northwest all day long. She broke through in the 11th minute, scoring the game's opening goal off a pass from Katie Killion.

She wasn't done Friday.

In the 86th minute, the game was still 1-0 and Northwest had more than its fair share of opportunities. But Haile put an end to it. She got a pass from Haley Post late and put in her second goal of the game to make it 2-0 and seal the deal for the Bronchos.

The goals were Haile's 10th and 11th on the season, 11 being a career high for the junior from Norman, Okla. Haile scored nine a year ago for Central and now has 26 career goals in Bronze & Blue.

Haile took a team-high five shots on the day, with three going on goal.

Camrie Hurst added a third goal, unassisted, in the 89th minute, icing on the cake for the Bronchos. Central out-shot Northwest Missouri 24-11 on the day. The Bronchos put 12 shots on goal to Northwest's six.

Kelsi Gibson played the full 90 in goal for the Bronchos Friday night. The freshman keeper, who has a NCAA Division II best 0.15 goals against average, made a season-high six saves on the evening. She stopped all four first-half shots on goal by the Bearcats and both, late, second-half shots.

UCO will continue its final regular season road trip Sunday in St. Joseph, Mo. The Bronchos take on Missouri Western at noon Sunday at Spratt Stadium. Central plays its final two regular season games at home next weekend, taking on Northeastern State (Friday) and Missouri Southern (Sunday) at Tom Thompson Field.
