UCO Downed By Augustana Sunday In Edmond

Central Oklahoma Falls 2-0 In Second Game Of Opening Weekend

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma dropped its second game of opening weekend with a 2-0 setback against Augustana Sunday morning at Tom Thompson Field.

The Bronchos are 0-2 after opening weekend. Central fell to No. 15 Minnesota State 2-1 on Friday night.

"It was more of the same to be honest," UCO head women's soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "We're creating chances but we're not getting enough out of it. Our defense did a great job for most of the game but we have to get more offense going."

UCO's defense limited Augustana to 11 total shots and just five on goal. The Bronchos also held the visiting Vikings off the board for 72 minutes. But a quick blitz followed.

Augustana scored off a free kick in the 73rd minute to go up 1-0, then struck again on two quick passes in the box to make it 2-0 in the 74th minute.

Maddie Ortwein made three saves in her second career start in goal.

UCO managed 14 total shots but only put three on goal, all saved by the Augie keeper. Forwards Sami Allen and Caleah Carter both took four total shots. Allen put two on goal. Sophia Gaskins, Addison Guthrie, Jordan Hahn, Ariana Kingsberry, Dannae Gutierrez, and Bailey Martin all took one shot each, with Martin's also landing on goal.

Central Oklahoma will hit the road for two next week. The Bronchos visit Oklahoma Baptist on Friday night in Shawnee and Midwestern State on Sunday afternoon in Wichita Falls, Texas. UCO returns home Sept. 9 against Southern Nazarene.
