Bronchos fall in series finale with Fort Hays State

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team had a three-game win streak snapped Sunday afternoon after losing 8-7 to Fort Hays State in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play at Wendell Simmons Field.

The Bronchos (12-3, 4-2) beat Fort Hays State in the first two games of the series. Alex Ruxlow got the win for Fort Hays State after throwing seven innings and striking out six Broncho hitters.

Brock Stuber got the start for the Bronchos but Central had to call to the bullpen after only 2/3 of an inning from the senior lefty. UCO was down 3-0 before any Broncho ever stood in the batter's box.

UCO responded though. The Bronchos tagged Hays for five runs in the bottom of the second to go up 5-3.

J.D. Cameron, who came on for Stuber in the first, threw five innings and recorded five strikeouts. Cameron however, also gave up five runs. Hays put one on the board in the fifth, and four more on in the sixth before Cameron's day was done.

Cameron got the loss for the Bronchos to move to 3-4 on the season.

Jake Dyer led UCO with four RBIs at the plate. The junior went 2 of 4 on the day and also scored a run. Dyer was the only Broncho to record multiple hits Sunday.

UCO Tuesday will go to Durant, Okla. for a doubleheader with Southeastern Oklahoma State before returning to Edmond to play Oklahoma Christian on Wednesday.
