Bronchos Hit The Road For Two MIAA Doubleheaders

Central Oklahoma goes on the road for a pair of Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association doubleheaders this weekend.

The Bronchos, 23-7 on the season and 5-3 in the league, play Lindenwood (9-14, 0-6) in St. Charles, Mo. at 2 and 4 p.m. Friday before going to Jefferson City, Mo. Saturday to take on Lincoln (3-25, 0-8) at 1 and 3 p.m.

"We've got four big games coming up, especially after what happened last week," said head coach Cody White, whose team dropped three of four conference home games last weekend.  "There's a lot of games left to play and anything can happen, but we need to get going if we want to be a factor in the conference race."

UCO struggled offensively in a doubleheader loss to defending MIAA champion Missouri Western Sunday before bouncing back the next day, collecting 20 total hits in sweeping a non-conference road doubleheader from Cameron.

The Bronchos still lead the league with a .333 team batting average, with five players hitting over .340.

Junior outfielder Carrie Abrams continues to top the MIAA in average (.489) and on-base percentage (.516) while also ranking second in triples with five.

Junior shortstop Morgan Heard is batting .381 with team highs in home runs (nine), runs scored (33) and stolen bases (11), while sophomore designated player/first baseman Carli Jones has a .366 average.

Sophomore outfielder JoBi Heath is hitting .359 with five doubles and a team-best 30 runs batted in and senior catcher/designated player Tori Collet has a .341 average with a team-high nine doubles, seven homers and 29 RBI.

Pitching-wise, junior Peyton Walker sports a 12-3 record with a 1.63 earned run average.  She's thrown a team-high 90 1/3 innings and has eight shutouts in 16 starts.

Sophomore Jayden Chestnut is 8-3 with a 2.34 ERA.  She's struck out 92 batters in 77 2/3 innings and opponents are hitting just .223 against her.
