UCO Splits Doubleheader at Southern Nazarene

Bronchos Rebound From Game 1 Loss with 10-1 Rout In Second Game

BETHANY, Okla. – Eight different players had at least one hit to lead an offensive assault that carried Central Oklahoma to a 10-1 second-game shellacking of Southern Nazarene as the No. 18-ranked Bronchos split a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader at Tere Webber Field.

UCO had its six-game winning streak snapped with a 4-1 first-game loss before rebounding with its resounding victory in the nightcap. The Bronchos, now 32-9 on the season, resume MIAA play Friday with a 2 p.m. home doubleheader against Emporia State.

Central finished with 13 hits in the second game, with eight of those going for extra bases. Haley Gallo, Kennedy Clark, Jenna Jobe, Brooklyn Lyles and Rylee Anglen had two hits apiece to lead the way.

Freshmen pitchers Carleigh Kinnaird and Kirstyn Barnard combined to limit the Crimson Storm to one run on two hits.

Kinnaird struck out two in two hitless innings to start the game, while Barnard gave up two hits and a run with two strikeouts in earning her first collegiate win. Barnard had thrown just two innings this season before shutting down SNU.

The Bronchos took quick control of the nightcap, pushing across three runs in the top of the first and five in the second.

Brooklyn Ryan got things going in the first with a one-out infield single and sped around to score the first run on Gallo's double to center field. Clark followed with an RBI single to left, Jobe's double to center moved Gallo to third and Hannah Demoff made it 3-0 with a sacrifice fly.

UCO used the long ball to take total control in the second.

Anglen reached on a one-out bunt single and Rylee Lemos followed with her seventh home run of the year, this one a massive shot to right field. Ryan was then hit by pitch and stole second before Gallo launched a line-drive shot over the left field fence.

Jobe kept the inning going with a two-out double to left-center, Demoff walked and Lyles laced a run-scoring double to center to make it an 8-0 cushion.

The Bronchos made it 9-0 in the third as Gallo drew a two-out walk, went to second on a pitch and scored on Clark's double to left.

SNU tallied its only run in the bottom half of the inning, but Central answered back in the fourth on Anglen's RBI single through the left side to go up 10-1.

The Bronchos managed just six hits in the opener, with Lyles getting two of those.

UCO's lone run came when Ryan led off the third with her third homer of the season, this one a no-doubt blast to left field.

The Crimson Storm came right back in their half of the inning to score all four of their runs on just two hits while benefitting from three walks and an error.

That 4-1 lead was more than enough as neither team threatened the rest of the way,

Shelby Beard and Madison Hamilton combined to give up just five hits in the circle, but SNU's big fourth inning was enough.
