Bronchos fall short in series finale at Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The University of Central Oklahoma lost 10-2 to Lindenwood Sunday in the final game of the three-game Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association series.

The Bronchos (16-7-1, 6-6) went 1-2 at Lindenwood this weekend.

"We haven't been able to close out a series all season long," UCO head coach John Martin said. "We've got to figure out how to win on Sundays. Today's performance wasn't good enough and we need to change that."

J.D. Cameron started for the Bronchos Sunday in Lindenwood and only allowed five hits and one earned run in four innings of work. However, four runs crossed the plate in those four innings – two each in the first and second. Cameron also walked two batters and didn't record any strikeouts.

Jaycee Parker, a regular starter, came on for Cameron in the bottom of the fifth. But Parker would give up four runs himself, three of them earned, and only made it one-third of an inning. Four more Broncho relievers made appearances Sunday, allowing two more runs.

UCO didn't get any help from the offense either. For the second time in three days, the Bronchos were held to just four hits.

Glenn Reeves, Brent Washausen, Xavier Warren and Kyle Miskovsky each recorded a hit Sunday for the Bronchos. Two of those hits came in the second inning, when the Bronchos got on the board.

Reeves walked to lead-off the second inning, then Washausen singled through the left side to put runners on first and second with nobody out. Cole Sanderson then laid down a sacrifice-bunt to move them over. Next, Warren got his lone hit of the day on a single to the third baseman. Reeves scored on the play.

Jake Dyer walked on the next at bat to load the bases, but Justin Brown struck out and Korey Floyd popped out to end the inning.

Reeves picked up his hit Sunday with a one-out double to right center in the top of the eighth inning. Washausen was hit by a pitch, and both he and Reeves moved up to second and third for the second time Sunday after a wild pitch.

Next, Chris Lobato walked to load the bases with one out and Warren stepped to the plate again. This time, he would reach on a fielder's choice, as Lindenwood opted to get Lobato out at second as Reeves scored for the second time Sunday.

The Bronchos now return to Edmond and are scheduled for four home games next week. Eight of the next nine for Central are at Wendell Simmons Field. The homestand begins with MIAA foe Missouri Southern on Tuesday at 3 p.m. The Bronchos also welcome Pittsburg State for a three-game conference series next weekend.
