UCO Season Ends With Loss To Ichabods

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (May 14) – Central Oklahoma had its 2016 season ended here Saturday morning with a 9-2 loss to Washburn in the an elimination game of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Post-season Tournament.
 
The Bronchos, who used four pitchers in the contest and were outhit 13-9, fell behind 5-0 after four innings and never got their offense untracked in ending the season 30-22.
 
"It's a tough way to end the season, but I'm proud of our guys and how they competed this year," first-year head coach John Martin said.  "We won 30 games and I thought our guys did a great job showing up at the field every day ready to play.
 
"We've got a lot of guys coming back next year and I'm excited about the future of our program."
 
Landon Eason led UCO with a 3-for-4 outing at the plate, while Trae Smith and Korey Floyd added two hits apiece.
 
The Ichabods scored single runs in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead before going up 5-0 with a three-run volley in the fourth.
 
The Bronchos scored their only two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
 
Isaac Hellbusch led of with a walk and went to second on a groundout before scoring on Floyd's double down the right field line, with Floyd scoring one out later on Jake Dyer's single up the middle.
 
But UCO could get no closer.
 
Washburn added single runs in the seventh and eight before scoring twice in the ninth to close out the game.
 
It was the final contest for four seniors – Hellbusch, Jacob Borrego, Zack Wunderlich, Daulton Leiker
