Washburn Evens Series With UCO

TOPEKA, Kan. (April 29) – Central Oklahoma dropped an 8-6 decision to Washburn in the second game of their Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association series here Friday afternoon.

The Bronchos fell to 26-19 on the season and 18-16 in the league, while the second-place Ichabods improved to 30-15 and 25-10.  The rubber match of the three-game series is set for 1 p.m. Saturday.

"It went back-and-forth and they just made a few more plays than we did," head coach John Martin said.  "It's been two hard-fought ball games and we expect more of the same tomorrow."

UCO broke on top 1-0 in its first at bat of the game when Jake Dyer led off with a double to right-center field, went to third on Jon Kamies' single and ended up scoring on Jacob Borrego's sacrifice fly.

WU got that run back in the bottom of the inning and the Bronchos went back ahead in the second on Landon Eason's single to right field that scored Korey Floyd, who led off with a walk.

The Ichabods tied it again in their next turn at the plate and then went up 4-2 in the third, with UCO getting a run back in the fourth when Eason was hit by pitch with the bases loaded.

The Bronchos pulled even in the fifth on Chris Lobato's run-scoring single to left-center, but Washburn went ahead to stay with one run in the sixth and made it 7-4 in the seventh.

UCO, which rallied for a 7-5 extra-inning win in Friday's series opener, got close on Kamies' two-run single in the eighth.  The Ichabods added an insurance run in the top of the ninth and the Bronchos went down order in their final at bat.

Eason went 3-for-4 to lead the offense, while Kamies added two hits.
