Leiker, Eason Spark Bronchos

EDMOND (April 22) – Daulton Leiker threw seven strong innings and Landon Eason had four hits to lead a potent offensive attack as Central Oklahoma toppled Northwest Missouri 9-6 Friday afternoon at Wendell Simmons Field.

The Bronchos built an 8-1 lead after seven innings before holding on at the end for their fourth win in five outings, improving to 24-16 overall and 16-13 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

The two teams meet again at 1 p.m. Saturday before finishing the three-game series at noon Sunday.

"Daulton really threw well today and gave us seven big innings," head coach John Martin said.  "We did a good job staying disciplined at the plate and came out with a good win to open the series."

Leiker scattered six hits and allowed just one walk and one run in his seven-inning stint while striking out five in improving to 5-1, with four relievers finishing out the contest.

Eason went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead a 14-hit attack.  Brenton Washausen added three hits, with Jon Kamies and Isaac Hellbusch chipping in two apiece.

UCO took control early with a four-run outburst in the bottom of the first inning.

Kamies had the big blow with a three-run home run – his team-leading 17th of the season – and Trae Smith added a sacrifice fly as the Bronchos went up 4-0.

UCO made it 5-0 in the fourth when Washausen doubled and scored on Chris Lobato's single, with the Bearcats getting their first run in the fifth.

The Bronchos answered that with three of their own in the bottom of that inning as Washausen had a two-run double and T.J. Sparr a sacrifice fly.

Hellbusch made it 9-1 when he led off the seventh with his sixth homer of the season and NWMSU scored five runs in its final two at bats to get close.
