Bearcats Even Series With UCO

EDMOND (April 23) – Central Oklahoma fell behind early and never recovered in dropping a 16-8 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association decision to Northwest Missouri Saturday afternoon at Wendell Simmons Field.
 
The Bearcats jumped out to a 4-0 first-inning lead and made it 11-0 in the top of the fourth before UCO got its offense going, but the Bronchos could never catch up.
 
The two teams finish the three-game series Sunday at noon.
 
"We got down early and it was an uphill battle the rest of the way," said head coach John Martin, whose team fell to 24-17 overall and 16-14 in the league.  "We gave them extra outs with some key errors that they took advantage of and we couldn't overcome it."
 
UCO finished with 12 hits, highlighted by a 3-for-4, five-RBI performance from Korey Floyd.  Landon Eason, Trae Smith ad Brenton Washauser added two hits apiece.
 
NWMSU finished with 16 hits and five Broncho pitchers also combined for eight walks.
 
UCO trailed 11-0 before it finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs behind Floyd's three-run double to get within 11-4 and Isaac Hellbusch's lead-off homer in the fifth made it 11-5.
 
But there would be no comeback as the Bearcats put the game away with two runs in the sixth and seventh to go ahead 15-5.  Floyd had a two-run double and Eason a solo homer to complete UCO's scoring.
