Dyer Sparks UCO Rout

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (April 15) – Jake Dyer had two hits and three runs batted in during an eight-run first-inning eruption that carried Central Oklahoma to an 18-6 drubbing of Lincoln here Friday afternoon.

Dyer led off the game in the top of the first with single up the middle and ended up scoring the first run of the game before adding a three-run home run later in the frame as the Bronchos took control early.

UCO clubbed 22 hits on the day en route to ending the game after seven runs on the 10-run rule.

The Bronchos improved to 21-15 on the season and 13-12 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.  The teams meet again at 1 p.m. Saturday before finishing the three-game series at noon Sunday.

"We swung the bats well today and got out to a quick lead," head coach John Martin said.  "A lot of guys contributed and hopefully we can keep it up tomorrow."

Dyer went 4-for-6 with six RBI to lead the offensive assault, while Jon Kamies had three hits and drove in five runs.  Isaac Hellbusch, Trae Smith and T.J. Sparr also had three hits apiece.

Daulton Leiker picked up the pitching win, striking out eight and giving up four earned runs in going the first five innings.  Bobby Pierce went the final two innings, allowing one unearned run.

Dyer's three-run blast to center field was the key blow in UCO's big opening-inning explosion, with Smith adding a solo homer, Kames an RBI double and Chris Lobato a run-scoring single.

Lincoln scored two runs in the first and third innings to pull within 8-4 before the Bronchos got two back in the fourth on run-scoring hits by Kamies and Jacob Borrego to go up 10-4.

UCO put the game away with a six-run volley in the fifth behind Kamies' three-run homer to left field – his team-high 14th of the season – and Dyer's RBI double.
