Extra Inning Agony

EDMOND (March 11) -- Central Oklahoma gave up two unearned runs in the top of the 10th inning to drop a tough 4-2 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association decision to Central Missouri Friday afternoon at Wendell Simmons Field.

The Bronchos fell to 10-6 on the season and 4-3 in the league, while the Mules improved to 7-6 and 6-1.  The three-game series continues at 2 p.m. Saturday before concluding at noon Sunday.

"It was a tough loss, but we just we have to put it behind us and get ready for tomorrow," head coach John Martin said.  "It was a good, hard-fought baseball came and we came up a little short."

UCM scored both 10th inning runs on a two-out fielding error in breaking a 2-2 tie and the Bronchos couldn't answer in their final at bat.

The teams combined for just nine hits, with UCO managing four and the Mules five.

The Bronchos broke on top 2-0 in the second when T.J. Sparr drew a two-out walk and Brenton Washausen followed with a blast over the left field fence.

UCM tied it with two runs in the fourth and it stayed that way until the faithful 10th.

Daulton Leiker was superb on the mound for UCO, though he didn't factor in the decision.  The senior gave up just four hits and two runs in the first eight innings while striking out six.
