UCO Rallies Past Mules

EDMOND (March 12) -- Jon Kamies' grand slam capped a 13-run eruption that catapulted Central Oklahoma to a come-from-behind 15-7 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association win over Central Missouri Saturday afternoon at Wendell Simmons Field.

The Bronchos trailed 6-2 after four innings before pushing across five runs in the fifth to move in front 7-6 and Kamies delivered his big blow during an eight-run volley in the eighth to make it 15-6 before UCM scored once in its final at bat.

UCO improved to 11-6 on the season and 5-3 in the league while dropping the Mules to 7-7 and 6-2.  The teams finish the three-game conference series Sunday at noon.

"We got down early, but didn't panic and found a way to get it done," head coach John Martin said.  "It was a good bounce-back win for us after losing a tough one Friday and we're looking forward to finishing the series on a positive note tomorrow."

Korey Floyd had the only offense for the Bronchos in the early going with a two-run homer in the second as UCM took a 6-2 lead, but that all changed in the fifth.

Kamies, Jacob Borrego and Brenton Washausen all had run-scoring doubles in that frame as UCO moved in front 7-6 with its five-run outburst.

The Bronchos then broke the game with their eight-run explosion in the eighth.  Washausen had a two-run single in that frame and Kamies had the big blast with his bases-loaded homer that made it 15-6.
