Eason, Leiker Spark Bronchos

EDMOND (Feb. 16) – Landon Eason went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead a 12-hit attack and Daulton Leiker had a strong outing on the mound to lead Central Oklahoma to a 12-2 drubbing of Southern Nazarene Tuesday afternoon at Wendell Simmons Field.

Leiker breezed through six innings, giving up just four hits and one run while striking out six in an 89-pitch outing.  Eason gave the Bronchos a lead they never relinquished with a two-run second-inning single and the game ended in the seventh on the 10-run rule.

"It was a good bounce-back win for us after the weekend," said first-year head coach John Martin, whose team dropped its last two games of the Southern Arkansas Festival.  "Daulton really threw the ball well and I thought we showed good discipline at the plate."

UCO led 2-0 after two innings on Eason's hit and made it 4-0 in the third as Brenton Washausen had a run-scoring triple and Trae Smith a sacrifice fly.

The Crimson Storm scored their first run in the fourth, but the Bronchos came back with three in the fifth and four in the sixth to break the game open.

Jacob Borrego had the big hit in the fifth with a two-run single and Chris Lobato added a sacrifice fly as UCO went up 7-1.

Isaac Hellbusch ripped a two-run double to left field, Lobato had his second consecutive sacrifice fly and Casey Bowlan delivered a pinch-hit RBI single in the sixth to make it a big 11-1 advantage, with SNU getting one run back in the top of the seventh.

The Bronchos ended it in the bottom half of that inning when Jake Dyer drew a bases-loaded walk to force in Landon, who had led off the inning with a single up the middle.

Hellbusch and Washausen added two hits apiece for UCO.

The Bronchos, now 3-2 on the young season, don't play again going to Weatherford to face Southwestern Oklahoma for a single contest next Tuesday.
