Bulldogs Top UCO

WEATHERFORD, Okla. (Feb. 24) – Central Oklahoma broke on top first, but fell behind quickly and had no answer for Southwestern Oklahoma in dropping a 14-1 decision here Tuesday.
 
The Bronchos took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning before SWOSU seized control with five runs in the second and three in the third en route to ending the game on the 10-run rule in the seventh inning.
 
UCO, which beat the Bulldogs 9-7 in the season opener two weeks ago, managed just four hits and used six pitchers while committing three errors in falling to 3-3.
 
The Bronchos got off to a good start in the top of the first when T.J. Sparr drew a one-out walk, went to third on Landon Eason's single through the right side and scored on Isaac Hellbusch's two-out single up the middle for a 1-0 lead.
 
That didn't last long, however, as SWOSU took advantage of three hits and two errors to push across five runs in the second before making it an 8-1 lead in the third.
 
The Bulldogs made it 13-1 within another five-run volley in the fifth and added their final run in the sixth.
 
UCO opens Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play Friday, hosting Southwest Baptist at 2 p.m. to begin a three-game series.
