Hot-shooting Bronchos Turn Tigers Blue

EDMOND (Jan. 28) – Jarred Bairstow and Kendahl Amerson put on a shooting clinic to spur Central Oklahoma to an impressive 105-78 drubbing of Lincoln Thursday night at Hamilton Field House.

The twosome combined for 43 points while hitting 16-of-17 shots – including all eight 3-point attempts – and 3-of-3 free throws as the Bronchos raced to their third straight win and the sixth in the last seven outings.

Bairstow was a perfect 9-of-9 from the field with three treys and 2-of-2 from the foul line in a career-best 23-point outing, while Amerson made 7-of-8 shots with five long-range bombs and his lone free throw in scoring 20 points.

UCO improved to 11-9 on the season and evened its Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association record at 7-7 with the lopsided win that avenged a five-point road loss earlier this season to the Blue Tigers.  LU fell to 12-8 and 8-6.

"The game's a lot easier when you shoot it like we did tonight," first-year head coach Tom Hankins said.  "We did a great job of moving the ball to find the open man and guys were knocking down shots.  I was really happy with the way we played after we built a big lead."

The Bronchos had season-best shooting performances both overall (63.2 percent) and from 3-point range (60.9 percent) in the rout.  UCO had 23 assists and committed just 12 turnovers in its highest-scoring game since early last season.

Jordan London also had a sizzling shooting night, making 5-of-6 shots with four 3-pointers in scoring 14 points to go with five assists.  Garen Wright had 11 points and five assists, while Corey Alpough chipped in 10 points – eight of those coming on dunks -- and three blocked shots.

The Bronchos trailed only twice -- at 2-0 and 4-3 -- before a Bairstow layup off a Wright feed put UCO in front to stay 5-4 at the 16:41 mark.

Lincoln tried to stay close and was within seven at 21-14 midway through the opening half when Amerson splashed through a long rainbow and London followed a Trai Jordan steal with a corner 3-pointer to start a 16-3 run.

Wright capped that spurt with a fast-break dunk that made it 37-17 with 6:10 left and the lead ballooned to 30 (59-29) by intermission as Amerson hit three treys down the stretch.

The Blue Tigers got no closer than 21 in the final 20 minutes and UCO's lead peaked at 36 (100-64).

The Bronchos are back in action Saturday, hosting Lindenwood at 3:30 p.m.
