Kokis Fuels UCO Rout

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Sept. 4) – Freshman Kentia Kokis scored three second-half goals to carry Central Oklahoma to a 4-1 season-opening rout of Concordia-St. Paul here Friday night.

The Bronchos led just 1-0 at the half before Kokis took over in the final 45 minutes.  The rookie from Owasso made it 2-0 in the 51st minute and then answered a Golden Bear goal with two scores in a 67-second span to put UCO in control.

"Kentia had a great game and really showed what she's capable of in the second half," head coach Mike Cook said.  "We played well on both sides and it was a great way to start the season."

Neither team managed much offense in the first half until UCO broke through in the 38th minute when Kimberly Linder scored on a rebound shot off a Quinn Tookey assist to put the Bronchos on top to stay.

Kokis got her first score five minutes into the second half, heading in a corner kick from Caitlin Moore to make it 2-0.

The Golden Bears scored 18 minutes later to pull within 2-1, but Kokis answered with two rapid-fire goals to put the game away.  She knocked a shot into the left side of the net off a Kate Mallory feed at the 73:01 mark and made it 4-1 just over a minute later with a score off a Falyn Dodd cross.

Defense did the rest as UCO coasted in with the win.  Elle Stover made six saves in going the first 75 minutes between the posts before Lexie Bates finished the game.

The Bronchos move on to Mankato Sunday to take on No. 6-ranked Minnesota State-Mankato at 12 p.m.
