Bronchos Roll Over Lindenwood

EDMOND (Sept. 26) – There was no letdown for No. 18-ranked Central Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos, coming off an upset of sixth-rated Central Missouri Friday night, took control from the outset and steamrolled Lindenwood 25-15, 25-19, 25-11 for their seventh straight win.

UCO improved to 13-1 on the season and 2-0 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play while dropping the Lady Lions to 8-3 and 1-1.

"We did a great  job putting last night's match behind us and getting ready for today," head coach Edgar Miraku said.  "We executed well,  took care of business and came out with a good win."

The Bronchos hit .312 as a team with 39 kills and just nine hitting errors in 96 attacks.

Freshmen Jordan Spence and Taylor Bevis hit a combined .514 with 18 kills and no errors in 35 attacks as Spence had eight kills in 11 attempts (.727) and Bevis 10 kills in 24 tries (.417).  The two rookies added four assisted blocks each.

Senior All-American Barbara Jackson had a match-high 12 kills with a .346 attack percentage, Katy Davis had 29 assists and Whitney Gifford made 20 digs.

Bevis had seven kills and Jackson six in the first set and UCO never trailed after taking a quick 3-0 lead in grabbing early control of the match.

The second set was close early, but the Bronchos broke a 7-7 tie with a 5-0 run that was capped by a Davis ace and UCO cruised from there.

Spence had three early kills in the third set as the Bronchos jumped on top 6-0 en route to closing out the match.

UCO goes on the road for its next five conference matches before returning home Oct. 13 to host non-conference rival Southern Nazarene.
