Streaking UCO Takes Out Griffons

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (Oct. 2) – Barbara Jackson sparked a second-set rally that put Central Oklahoma in control and the No. 14-ranked Bronchos went on to complete a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association sweep of Missouri Western here Friday night.

Jackson had five kills as the Bronchos overcome a 15-9 deficit in the second set in claiming a 25-21, 25-22, 25-21 victory, their eighth in a row.  UCO, now 14-1 on the season and 3-0 in the league, are back in action Saturday with a 3 p.m. match at Northwest Missouri.

"Any win on the road in this conference is huge and we did a great job staying focused on the task at hand," head coach Edgar Miraku said.  "We played really well at times and came out with a big win against a strong team."

Jackson finished with a match-high 16 kills to go with 19 digs and two solo blocks in leading UCO, while Taylor Bevis added 15 kills.

The Bronchos also got seven kills and three blocks from Jordan Spence and five kills from Allison BarrKaty Davis handed out 41 assists in addition to making 14 digs, with Whitney Gifford (19 digs) and Bonnie Vernon (11) also keying the defensive efforts.

The first set went back-and-forth early and UCO was down 8-7 before scoring four unanswered points to take the lead for good, getting kills from Barr and Jackson along with a Davis service ace during that spurt.

MWSU jumped out to an early lead in the second set and pushed its advantage to six at 15-9.  The Bronchos rallied with a 12-3 run behind three blocks and two kills each from Jackson and Bevis in grabbing a 21-18 lead, with Jackson making three more kills in closing out the set.

It was close again in the third set and UCO had just a 22-21 lead before two Bevis kills and a Spence spike closed out the set to complete the 10th sweep of the season.
