Bronchos Roll Over Bulldogs

EDMOND (Sept. 19) – Barbara Jackson and Allison Barr combined for 25 kills to fuel another three-set rout for No. 19-ranked Central Oklahoma Saturday night at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos scored their eighth sweep of the season and won their eighth straight home match with a 25-10, 25-21, 25-15 romp over Southwestern Oklahoma.  UCO improved to 11-1 with its fifth consecutive victory in the final non-conference match of the season.

Jackson hit .324 with a match-high 15 kills, while Barr was virtually unstoppable in the middle with 10 kills and no errors in 14 tries for a sizzling .714 attack percentage to spark the Bronchos.

"We played a solid match and came out with a nice win," head coach Edgar Miraku said.  "We've made a lot of progress and still have a long ways to go, but we're excited about getting into conference play."

The Bronchos jump into Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play Friday with a 6:30 p.m. showdown against No. 6-ranked Central Missouri.

UCO finished with a .345 hitting percentage as a team.  Taylor Bevis added eight kills, Katy Davis had 36 assists and Whitney Gifford and Bonnie Vernon made 10 digs apiece.

The Bronchos hit .722 in the opening set with 14 kills and just one error in 18 attacks, but it was tied early before UCO seized control behind Gifford's serve.

Gifford had three aces and the Bronchos ripped off 12 unanswered points in turning a 5-5 tie into a 17-5 lead to take command of the set.

UCO trailed 12-9 in the second set before rallying, taking the lead for good at 19-18 on a Barr kill.

The third set was tied 6-6 early, but the Bronchos got three kills from Jackson in an 8-0 run to move in front for good at 14-6 and went on to close out the match.
