UCO Blanks Crimson Storm

EDMOND (Sept. 12) – Kenzie Sublett scored one goal and assisted on another to spark Central Oklahoma to a 2-0 home-opening win over near-by rival Southern Nazarene Saturday afternoon at Tom Thompson Field.

The Bronchos ended a two-game losing streak in evening their record at 2-2, scoring twice in an eight-minute span of the first half to take control before defense did the rest.

"That was a good win for us after we had struggled in our last two games," head coach Mike Cook said.  "We came out aggressive and got the lead and did a good job defensively.  We're a young team that's making progress and we'll continue to get better."

Sublett got her first score of the season at the 15:11 mark off an assist from Kentia Kokis and UCO made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute when Katie Killion knocked in a pass from Sublett.

Ally Salls went the distance in goal to register the shutout, rejecting the only two shots she faced.  The Bronchos outshot SNU 19-6, including an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Ashley McDaniel, Quinn Tookey, Casey Herndon and Camrie Hurst paced UCO's defensive efforts.

The Bronchos stay home to open Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play next Thursday, hosting Northeastern State at 4 p.m.
