BronchosTake Two From SBU

EDMOND (April 10) – Ashleigh Tramel continued a recent power surge with key run-scoring hits in both games to spark Central Oklahoma to a doubleheader sweep of Southwest Baptist here Friday afternoon.

The sophomore catcher blasted a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning of the first game to lift the Bronchos to a 5-3 victory and then ripped a two-run double to ignite a six-run fourth inning rally that powered UCO an 8-5 triumph in the nightcap.

Tramel finished the day with two doubles, one homer and six RBI and has batted .529 over the last six games with five doubles, four homers and 19 RBI.

The Bronchos stretched their winning streak to nine in a row with the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association sweep.  UCO, which has also won 15 straight home games dating back to last season, improved to 31-12 overall and 12-4 in the league heading into Saturday's 1 p.m. twinbill against Central Missouri.

"Ashleigh came through with some clutch hits for today when we really needed them," head coach Cody White said.  "We struggled in both games, but found a way to win and that was the good thing.  We've got two big games tomorrow and need to be ready to go."

Central took a 2-0 lead in the second inning of the opener on Shelby Carel's two-out, two-run single through the right side and that held up until the fifth when the Bearcats tied it with a two-run homer.

SBU scored once in the top of the sixth to go up 3-2, but Tramel answered with her big bomb in the bottom  of the inning to put the Bronchos on top to stay. Ally Dziadula was hit by pitch and Brooke Zukerman walked before Tramel hammered the first pitch she saw over the right-center field wall for her 13th homer of the season.

Nicole Brady put the Bearcats down in order in the top of the seventh to finish off the win.  The junior right-hander gave up seven hits and struck out five in going the distance, improving her record to 12-6.

UCO managed just five hits in the contest, getting one each from five different players.

The second game was scoreless until the fourth when SBU used a pair of homers to move in front 3-0.

The Bronchos came right back in their half of the inning, erupting for six runs on seven hits.  Tramel's two-run line-drive double to left-center started the scoring, with UCO also getting a two-run single from Ashton Smith and RBI hits from Emily Ditmore and Dziadula in taking a 6-3 lead.

Another two-run homer pulled the Bearcats within 6-5 in the top of the fifth, but again UCO retaliated.  Tramel followed Morgan Heard's lead-off single with a run-scoring double to left and Carel added a sacrifice fly as the Bronchos pushed the lead back to three at 8-5.

Jessi Walker went the first 4 2/3 innings to earn the pitching win, improving to 10-1, while Kelsey Berlin came on to throw 2 1/3 shutout innings in picking up her second save.

All nine batters in the lineup had at least one hit, with Tramel, Ditmore and Rachel Harper getting two each.
