Bronchos Loses Two In Missouri

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (March 21) – Central Oklahoma's potent offensive lineup was silenced in a pair of low-scoring losses at the Missouri Western Invitational here Saturday.

The No. 16-ranked Bronchos, who entered the day averaging six runs a game with a .320 team batting average, fell to No. 24 Augustana (4-2) and Upper Iowa (1-0) while managing just 10 combined hits.

"Our pitchers threw well, but we didn't do much at the plate today," head coach Cody White said.  "We lost a tough one against Augustana and then didn't come out ready to play in the next one, which was disappointing."

UCO, which fell to 20-8 with the two losses, takes on Wayne State at 3 p.m. Sunday to end the three-day event.

The Bronchos had only two hits in the Augie loss, but used one of those to take a 1-0 lead in the second on Ashleigh Tramel's solo home run to left field.

It stayed that way until the fifth when the Vikings used a two-run homer to take the lead, but the Bronchos came back to tie it in the top of the sixth on Morgan Heard's run-scoring double.

Augie broke the 2-2 stalemate in the bottom of that frame with a pair of runs and then held on as UCO put two runners on with one out before back-to-back groundouts ended the threat.

The Vikings had just five hits in the contest, with Kelsey Berlin taking the loss after giving up four hits and three runs in five innings.

The offensive woes continued against UIU, with the Bronchos managing six hits in suffering just their second shutout loss of the season.

Nicole Brady pitched well, giving up four hits and walking two in going the distance.

The Peacocks scored without benefit of a hit in the bottom of the first when a walk, error, sacrifice bunt and wild pitch plated the game's only run.

UCO's best scoring chance came in the third when Tramel's single and Emily Ditmore's double put runners on second and third with one out, but the Bronchos couldn't push across a run.

Kaylee Brunson and Tramel had two hits apiece for UCO.
