Dziadula Leads UCO To Easy Win

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (March 22) – Ally Dziadula had three hits and three runs batted in to spark No. 16-ranked Central Oklahoma past Wayne State 7-2 here Sunday on the final day of the Missouri Western Invitational.

The Bronchos never trailed en route to ending a brief two-game losing streak and improving to 21-8 while finishing 3-2 in the three-day event.

"We played pretty well today," head coach Cody White said.  "Offensively we came up with some key hits and Kelsey (Berlin) threw another solid game for us."

Berlin went the distance in the circle, scattering seven hits and giving up two unearned runs while walking just one and striking out five.

Dziadula's 3-for-4, three-RBI performance at the plate led an eight-hit attack, while Shelby Carel added two hits.  Kaylee Brunson scored four runs despite not getting a hit or walk, reaching base twice on fielder's choices and twice on errors.

UCO broke on top 1-0 in the first when Brunson reached on an error, stole second, went to third on Ashton Smith's sacrifice bunt and scored on Dziadula's base hit to left field.

Dziadula added an RBI groundout in the third as the Bronchos pushed their lead to 3-0 and Brooke Zukerman's run-scoring single made it 4-0 in the fifth.

UCO broke the game open with a three-run outburst in the sixth as Brunson had an RBI sacrifice and Dziadula a run-scoring single.

Wayne State scored its only two runs with the help of an error in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't nearly enough to catch the Bronchos.

UCO resumes Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play this weekend, going to Nebraska-Kearney and Fort Hays State for consecutive doubleheaders.
