Bronchos Lose One, Win One

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Feb. 22) – Central Oklahoma managed just enough offense to salvage to split of its final two games in the Rattler Invitational here Sunday.

The No. 13-ranked Bronchos had only nine hits on the day, collecting four in a first-game 1-0 loss to Oklahoma Christian before getting five in a 3-1 victory over Tarleton State to end the three-day, six-game event at 4-2.

"We didn't do much offensively today and that should definitely be strength of ours," head coach Cody White said.  "We've got to do a better job swinging the bats, but I know that's something we'll be better at as the season moves along."

Nicole Brady earned the pitching win against the TexAnns, giving up just two hits and striking out four in four innings of relief work.

TSU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning in that contest, but the Bronchos tied it in their initial at bat when Kaylee Brunson led off with a walk, stole second and scored on Ally Dziadula's double.

UCO broke the 1-1 deadlock in the third on Morgan Heard's sacrifice fly and made it 3-1 in the fourth when Ashton Smith singled, went to second on Emily Ditmore's sacrifice bunt and went home on Brunson's double to right field.

Brunson had two of UCO's five hits in the contest.

Kelsey Berlin took the tough-luck pitching loss in the opener against OC, scattering six hits and walking one while giving up one unearned run in going the distance.

The Eagles got the only score in the bottom of the fifth with the help of two UCO errors and the Bronchos couldn't push across a run despite putting five runners on base in their final two at bats.

Heard, Brady and Ashleigh Tramel were all named to the all-tournament team.

UCO, now 8-4 on the season, doesn't play again going to near-by Oklahoma Christian for a doubleheader March 3.
