UCO Romps Past Gorillas

EDMOND (Nov. 3) – Taylor Bevis had 12 kills with no hitting errors and No. 15-ranked Central Oklahoma overwhelmed Pittsburg State Tuesday night at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos had no trouble in a 25-9, 25-18, 25-13 sweep, improving to 24-3 on the season and 12-2 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play with their 14th straight home win.

"We came out and took care of business and that was good to see," head coach Edgar Miraku said.  "We've been on the road the last couple of weeks and it was good to finally be home."

UCO hit .350 as a team with 43 kills and just seven errors in 103 attacks.

Bevis led the way, hitting .600 with her match-high 12 kills and no miscues in 20 attempts.  Allison Barr hit .348 with nine kills and one error in 23 attacks.

The Bronchos also got eight kills from Deborah Ijeoma Njenje, while Jordan Spence added five kills and four blocks.  Katy Davis distributed 38 assists to go with two service aces and Whitney Gifford had 20 digs.

UCO never led in the first-set rout, reeling off 10 straight points on Karen Montes' serve during one stretch in building a 20-5 lead.

PSU fought back in the second set and was up 7-5 at one point, but the Bronchos came back to take the lead for good at 11-10 on a service error and pulled away from there.

Davis and Bevis had aces during an early spurt that gave UCO a 10-2 advantage in the third set, with Elizabeth Boyd coming off the bench to collect four kills as the Bronchos closed out the match.

UCO continues its regular season-ending five-match homestand Friday, taking on Missouri Southern at 6 p.m.
