UCO Rolls Over Stars

EDMOND (Nov. 27) – Jordan London scored all eight of his points during a rapid-fire sequence early in the second half to spark a 12-1 run that put Central Oklahoma in front and the Bronchos went on to a 90-67 drubbing of Oklahoma City Friday night at Hamilton Field House on the first day of the UCO Thanksgiving Classic.

UCO was down 45-44 early in the second before London caught fire, hitting a layup and two 3-pointers in a one-minute, 24-second span as the Bronchos sprinted out to a 56-46 lead.

The Stars never responded and UCO steadily pulled away the rest of the game in improving to 4-1.  The Bronchos outscored OCU 50-26 in the second half after trailing 41-40 at halftime.

UCO is back in action Saturday night, hosting Southern Nazarene at 7:30 p.m.  Oklahoma Christian and OCU meet in the first game of the evening at 5:30.

"We came out strong to start the second half and that was the difference," head coach Tom Hankins said.  "We made some shots, did a good job defensively to get the lead and played pretty well all the way around."

It was the first game of the season not decided by six points or less as UCO shot a season-high 50.0 percent (27-of-54) from the field while outrebounding the Stars 39-28.

Garen Wright led the way with 20 points, hitting 5-of-9 shots with a pair of 3-pointers and 8-of-13 free throws.

Cornell Neal was 6-of-10 from the field and 7-of-9 from the line in a 19-point outing, which Kendahl Amerson equaled by making 6-of-11 shots – including three early 3-pointers – and all four foul shots.

Trai Jordan added a game-high nine rebounds, while Jarred Bairstow chipped in six points and five boards.

The Stars led 45-44 in the opening minutes of the second half before Amerson hit a pair of free throws to put UCO in front to stay.

London scored a fast-break layup off his own steal with 16:37 left and followed an OCU miss with a 3-pointer from the corner off a nice Bairstow pass at 15:56 to give the Bronchos a 51-45 lead.

Corey Alpough made a layup off a Neal steal at 15:33 and then London followed an OCU free throw by draining another trey from the corner with 15:13 remaining to put UCO up 56-46.

The lead ballooned to 18 (71-53) on a Wright 3-pointer six minutes later, went to 21 (80-59) on an Amerson layup at the 6:47 mark and peaked at 29 (88-59) on Josh Holliday's 12-foot jumper with 2:11 to play.

Amerson drilled two long-range 3-pointers in the first three minutes to give UCO an early 10-3 advantage, but the Stars came back to take a 19-16 lead and it was a back-and-forth battle the rest of the half before OCU pulled in front 41-10 by intermission.
