Tournament Page

EDMOND (Nov. 20) – Barbara Jackson had a match-high 18 kills and Taylor Bevis added 13 to lead No. 14-ranked Central Oklahoma past No. 15 Washburn in the semifinals of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Post-season Tournament Friday night at Hamilton Field House.

The regular season champion Bronchos prevailed 25-23, 22-25, 25-16, 25-22 in advancing to Saturday's 3 p.m. finals against No. 13 Central Missouri, which knocked off Nebraska-Kearney in the other semifinal.

UCO
improved to 30-3 in reaching the 30-win plateau for just the fourth time in school history -- and the first time since 2007 -- in beating the Ichabods for the second time in a week.  It was the 20th straight home win for the Bronchos.

"It was a great team win," said head coach Edgar Miraku, whose team beat WU in a five-set battle last Saturday.  "It was a hard match, especially having just played them less than a week ago.  They're a tough team and I was really proud of the way we worked tonight.  We're excited about being in the finals."

Jackson had six of her 18 kills in the final set and added 13 digs on the night, while Bevis had five assisted blocks to go with her 13 kills.  Jordan Spence contributed six kills and six blocks for the Bronchos.

Whitney Gifford was a key defender once again for UCO in coming up with a season-high 38 digs, while Bonnie Vernon and Mikayla Bangasser had 10 apiece.  Katy Davis handed out 41 assists.

The Bronchos never led in the opening set until scoring the final five points to overcome a 23-20 deficit.  Allison Barr teamed with Deborah Ijeome Njenje for two blocks and also had a solo rejection to spark that rally.

UCO jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the second set before the Ichabods came back take the win and even the match.

The Bronchos led 8-7 in the third set before reeling off eight unanswered points – seven on Vernon's serve – to take control and pushed their lead to 20-9 before coasting in.

UCO had a late five-point advantage in the third set before the Ichabods pulled within 23-22, but a service error and Jackson kill closed out the match.
