Bronchos Rally Past Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (Oct. 31) – Taylor Bevis had back-to-back kills to help Central Oklahoma stay alive in a fourth-set rally and the No. 12-ranked Bronchos went on to pull out an amazing five-set victory over Lindenwood here Saturday night.

UCO was down 2-1 in sets and trailed 25-24 in the fourth before Bevis' two kills sparked a comeback that carried the Bronchos to a thrilling 25-17, 22-25, 26-28, 28-26, 15-11 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association triumph.

Coach Edgar Miraku's troops ended a two-match league losing streak with the dramatic win in improving to 23-3 on the season and 11-2 in the league to stay in the thick of a heated race for the conference championship.

"I couldn't be more proud of the way we battled and found a way to win tonight," Miraku said.  "There were several times where it looked like we were done, but our girls hung in there and got the job done.  It was a big, big win for us."

UCO had a .327 attack percentage for the night with 75 kills against 21 errors in 165 attacks.

Barbara Jackson (22), Taylor (21) and Allison Barr (14) all had season highs for kills, while Jordan Spencer added 12.

Barr hit .455 in addition to blocking six shots, Taylor had a .410 attack percentage and Jackson hit .321 with six blocks in moving into fifth place on UCO's career kills list with 1,437.

Setter Katy Davis handed out a career-best 66 assists and libero Whitney Gifford made 29 digs.

The Bronchos appeared in danger of dropping their third straight match after falling behind 22-19 in the fourth set and LU was serving for the match with a 25-24 lead when Bevis came through with her consecutive kills to put UCO up 26-25.

The Lions tied it at 26-all, but an attack error put the Bronchos back in front and Spence ended it with a kill to force the fifth set.

Lindenwood jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the deciding set, but Bevis had two kills in a 6-1 run that gave UCO the lead for good at 7-4.  It was still close at 11-10 before two Bevis kills and two hitting errors gave the Bronchos their second five-set win of the season.

UCO dominated in taking the first set, collecting 15 kills with just one error in 30 attacks, but the Lions rebounded to take the second set.  The third set saw 15 ties and six lead changes before LU scored the final two points to break a 26-all deadlock and put the Bronchos on the ropes.

Central starts a regular season-ending five-game homestand Tuesday, hosting league rival Pittsburg State at 7 p.m.
