Surging Bronchos Blank Missouri Southern

JOPLIN, Mo. (Oct. 31) – Victoria Neblett came off the bench to score two first-half goals and spark surging Central Oklahoma to a 3-0 road rout of Missouri Southern here Saturday afternoon.

It was the fourth straight win for the Bronchos, who finished the regular season 11-5-2 overall and 7-2-2 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.  UCO will be the No. 2 seed for the MIAA Post-season Tournament and will host Nebraska-Kearney in first-round game Wednesday at 3 p.m.

The Bronchos scored three goals in a five-minute span of the first half to take a commanding 3-0 lead into the break and coasted in from there.

"We're playing our best soccer at the right time," head coach Mike Cook said.  "I'm really proud of the way this team has come together and we're looking forward to the conference tournament."

The Bronchos failed to convert several good scoring chances early in the game and it stayed scoreless until Neblett finally broke through at the 35:19 mark when the freshman dribbled down the left side and beat the goalkeeper with the kick to the left corner of the net.

UCO made it 2-0 at 39:10 when the Lions knocked the ball into their own net and Neblett scored again two minutes later to put the Bronchos in firm control.

It was the third goal of the season for Neblett, who scored from close range after taking a pass from Katie Killion.

Elle Stover and Lexie Bates split time between the posts for UCO, with Stover making two saves in the opening half and Bates three in the final 45 minutes.

The Bronchos outshot MSSU 20-8, with Quinn Tookey, Camrie Hurst and Courtney Cox leading the defensive efforts.
