Moore Rescues UCO

EDMOND (Oct. 25) – Freshman Caitlin Moore saved Senior Day for Central Oklahoma Sunday afternoon at Tom Thompson Field, knocking in the winning goal with 2:12 left in overtime to propel the Bronchos past Southwest Baptist 3-2.

UCO ended a five-game losing streak to the Bearcats with the dramatic Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association victory after squandering an early 2-0 lead and Moore was the hero with her score in the 98th minute of the final regular season home game.

The rookie gathered in a Kenzie Sublett pass at the top of the box and lofted a shot over the head of SBU's goalkeeper to break the tie with her second goal of the season.

"Caitlin made a great shot to get us the win, but it shouldn't have come down to that," head coach Mike Cook said.  "I thought we controlled the game and just missed too many chances to put them away early."

The Bronchos had a 2-0 lead just over six minutes into the game and dominated most of the contest in taking a season-high 23 shots, but SBU still managed to force overtime.

UCO swarmed the Bearcats early and went up 1-0 just 3:30 in when Paige Matacchiera looped in a rebound shot from 20 feet away.

It became a 2-0 advantage at the 6:22 mark on Morgan Cherry's close-range goal off a feed from Katie Killion and the Bronchos appeared ready for a rout.

SBU managed to hold on and used a free kick in the 26th minute to pull within 2-1 before tying the game at 62:53.

UCO had several opportunities to break the deadlock in the final 15 minutes, but couldn't convert until Moore's game-winner.

Quinn Tookey, Courtney Cox and Camrie Hurst spearheaded the defensive efforts for the Bronchos, while Elle Stover had two saves in goal.

UCO, now 9-5-2 on the season and 5-2-2 in league play, goes on the road for its final two regular season games.
