Bronchos Win Again

EDMOND (Oct. 13) – Taylor Bevis banged out a season-high 17 kills and No. 11-ranked Central Oklahoma kept rolling Tuesday night at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos stretched their winning streak to 13 in a row with their fourth consecutive sweep, subduing stubborn Southern Nazarene 25-23, 25-21, 25-16.

UCO had another strong night on the attack, collecting 50 kills in 106 attacks with just 10 errors in hitting .377 and improving to 19-1 in the final non-conference match of the season.

"Taylor was almost unstoppable and gave us a big boost tonight," head coach Edgar Miraku said.  "It was good to finally be home after two weeks on the road and we're looking forward to a big weekend."

The Bronchos resume Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play Friday against Fort Hays State before hosting No. 12 Nebraska-Kearney Saturday.

Bevis had a .448 attack percentage with 17 kills and four errors in 29 attacks.  The rookie standout had seven kills in the first set and six in the second as UCO won a pair of hard-fought battles.

Allison Barr hit .368 with nine kills and two miscues in 19 attempts, while Jordan Spence had seven kills and no errors in 15 tries for a .467 attack percentage in addition to blocking five shots.

The Bronchos also got eight kills, three blocks and two service aces from Barbara Jackson, seven kills with a .353 attack percentage from Deborah Ijeoma Njenje and 42 assists from Katy Davis.

UCO jumped on top 4-1 in the first seat and still appeared in control with a 10-7 lead before the Crimson Storm battled back to take a 14-13 lead.

Jackson's kill put the Bronchos ahead to stay at 16-15, but it was close the rest of the way and the set ended on an SNU hitting error.

There were 10 ties and seven lead changes in the second set, with UCO using a 4-1 run to turn an 11-10 deficit into a 14-12 lead in going ahead to stay.  Bevis had a kill and Spence two blocks in that key stretch.

The Crimson Storm had a 10-8 lead in the third set, but Jackson had two aces and a kill during an 8-1 scoring spurt that put UCO in front and the Bronchos cruised in from there to close out the match.
