Bronchos Roll On

EDMOND (Oct. 16) – Four players collected double-digit kills and No. 11-ranked Central Oklahoma stretched its winning streak to 14 straight with a sweep of Fort Hays State Friday night at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos overcame a six-point deficit in pulling out a 25-23 first-set win before taking back-to-back 25-18 victories in finishing off their fifth consecutive Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association sweep.

UCO stayed atop the league standings at 8-0 and improved to 20-1 on the season in setting up a key showdown with No. 12 Nebraska-Kearney at 7 p.m. Saturday.

"We had a lot of balance tonight and that's always good to see," head coach Edgar Miraku said.  "We struggled some early, but made a nice comeback in the first set and that settled us down.  We've got a big match tomorrow and need to come out ready to go from the start."

The Bronchos had another stellar night on the attack, committing just eight errors while making 52 kills in 102 attempts for a .431 hitting percentage.

Taylor Bevis hit .425 with a match-high 12 kills, while Allison Barr hit .625 with 11 kills, Barbara Jackson .321 with 11 kills and Jordan Spence .625 with 10 kills.

Katy Davis distributed 47 assists, with Whitney Gifford making 19 digs and Mikayla Bangasser seven.

Bevis had eight of her kills in the opening set as UCO overcame a 17-11 deficit.  A Bevis kill capped a 9-3 run that tied it at 20-all and it was deadlocked again at 23 before the Bronchos scored the final two points on kills by Spencer and Bevis.

UCO trailed again early in the second set before taking control with a 9-3 run and built a big lead in the third set en route to closing out its 11th straight home win.
