Box Score

BOLIVAR, Mo. (Jan. 10) –
Seth Heckart's long-range shooting stroke heated up and Central Oklahoma ended a two-game Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association skid with a 73-61 victory over Southwest Baptist here Saturday.

Heckart drilled his first five 3-point attempts, with four of those coming in the second half as the Bronchos dominated the final 20 minutes to easily overcome a four-point halftime deficit.  The junior guard went 6-of-7 from the field with the five treys and 6-of-6 from the line in finishing with a season-high 23 points while adding three rebounds, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot.

Mahlon Jones was the only other player in double figures with 10 points.  Philip Brown chipped in eight points, a game-high nine rebounds and two blocks, with Garen Wright also contributing eight points.

UCO outscored the Bearcats 47-31 in the second half, shooting 55.3 percent (16-of-29) from the field.  The Bronchos improved to 12-4 on the season and 5-2 in the league.

"That was a big win for us," head coach Terry Evans said.  "We hadn't played very well the last two games and struggled early today, but we came out and did a lot of good things in the second half."

UCO jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the game, but the Bearcats answered with seven straight points and went on to take a 21-12 lead after 12 minutes.

A Heckart 3-pointer and three-point play by Trai Jordan keyed a 10-2 run that pulled the Bronchos within 23-22 before SBU went on to take a 30-26 halftime lead.

UCO opened the second half with eight unanswered points, getting 3-pointers from Heckart and Wright along with a Brown layup to go ahead 34-30.

The Bearcats answered with a 5-0 spurt to regain the lead at 35-34 before UCO responded with an 11-0 surge in finally taking the lead for good.

The Bronchos had four layups in that run, getting two from Darrius Bryson and one each from Brown and Jacob Richardson in addition to a Heckart trey in going ahead 45-35 with 12:30 left to play.

Heckart scored eight consecutive points on two long-distance daggers and a layup a few minutes later to bump UCO's lead to 58-41 and the cushion grew to 20 at 61-41 on Wright's 3-pointer with 7:55 to play.

SBU never got closer than the final 12-point margin the rest of the way as the Bronchos coasted in.

UCO goes back on the road next week, traveling to Fort Hays State Thursday and Nebraska-Kearney Saturday.
