Gary Howard, the winningest football coach in UCO's tradition-rich history, will receive the Merv Johnson Integrity in Coaching Award, while senior-to-be wide receiver Christian Hood is one of eight recipients of the National Football Foundation/Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame College Players of the Year.

Howard spent more than three decades on the football staff at UCO, serving as defensive coordinator from 1968-76 and then taking over as head coach in 1977.

He led the Bronchos to a 162-105-6 record in 26 years at the helm (1977-02), the most wins of any Oklahoma college coach.  Howard had 13 seasons with seven-plus wins and guided UCO to seven of its 10 playoff appearances, winning the NAIA national championship in 1982.

A product of Union High School in Tulsa, Hood is a three-year starter for the Bronchos and will enter his senior season this fall ranked third in career receptions list (138) and 10th in career receiving yards (1,486) at UCO.
