Late-game Dry Spell Dooms UCO

HAYS, Kan. (Feb. 26) –
Fort Hays State outscored Central Oklahoma 12-2 over the final six minutes to hand the Bronchos a 72-62 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association setback here Wednesday night.
 
The Bronchos tied the game at 60-all with 6:15 left on two Marley Anderson free throws, but UCO had three turnovers and made just 1-of-5 shots the rest of the way in losing its eighth game in nine outings.
 
Britney Morgan was the only player in double figures for the Bronchos, making 8-of-13 shots with four 3-pointers in scoring a season-high 20 points.  UCO was outscored 26-8 at the free throw line, getting whistled for 25 fouls in the contest.
 
The Bronchos, now 11-14 on the season and 6-12 in the league, finish the regular season schedule at Nebraska-Kearney Friday night.  FHSU improved to 18-7 and 11-7.
 
UCO led 39-36 at intermission and opened the second half with a Julia Mason jumper to make it 41-36, but the Bronchos missed 13 straight shots – 11 field goals and two free throws – as the Tigers scored 16 unanswered points to grab a 52-41 lead with 12:10 left to play.
 
Central battled back, pulling within three (59-56) on a Julia Mason layup at 7:50 and final drawing even at 60-60 at the 6:15 mark on Anderson's two foul shots.
 
FHSU came back with a 3-pointer to regain the lead (63-60) before Morgan made a mid-range jumper to make it a one-point game (63-62) at 4:41, but the Bronchos didn't score again.
