EDMOND (Feb. 22) –
Four different players scored in a quick-strike 11-0 run that put Central Oklahoma in the lead for good and the Bronchos went on to topple Northeastern State 63-56 Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

It was the sixth straight Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association win for UCO, which improved to 17-7 overall and 11-6 in the league in its final regular season home appearance.  The RiverHawks fell to 13-11 and 8-9.

NSU turned a 31-26 halftime deficit into a 36-35 lead on a 3-pointer with 14:26 remaining, but the Bronchos were up by 10 just over two minutes later.

Aaron Anderson started the spurt with a three-point play, Josh Gibbs followed an NSU miss with a long 3-pointer from the wing, Jarred Bairstow converted a three-point play after another RiverHawk miss and Seth Heckart made a layup after a Bairstow steal to cap the run.

That made it 46-36 at the 12:08 mark and the Bronchos never trailed again.

"We struggled some offensively, but we had a couple of good spurts and did what we needed to do," said 12th-year head coach Terry said.  "We played well defensively and came out with a good win."

It was the 240th career win for Evans (240-111), moving him into second place on the program's all-time win list behind Jim Seward (261-165 in 15 years).

Gibbs led UCO with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Anderson went 7-of-10 from the field in a 15-point outing.  Bairstow added eight points and six rebounds as the Bronchos outrebounded NSU 38-28.

UCO limited the RiverHawks to 35.2-percent shooting from the field and held the league's leading scorer, Bryton Hobbs, to 15 points -- eight below his average.

The Bronchos got off to a tough start, missing its first three shots and committing three early turnovers to fall into a 10-0 hole after just three minutes.

UCO responded with a 16-3 run that included 3-pointers by Bairstow and Nic Combs to take a 16-13 lead and the Bronchos went on to take a 31-26 halftime advantage.

Central ends the regular season on the road next week with games at Fort Hays State and Nebraska-Kearney.
