Bronchos Hammer Lindenwood

Box Score

EDMOND (Dec. 4) –
Philip Brown and Garen Wright scored 20 points apiece while missing just two combined shots and Central Oklahoma opened Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play with a 93-70 drubbing of Lindenwood Thursday night at Hamilton Field House.

Brown was a perfect 8-of-8 from the field in his 20-point outing that Wright equaled by making 7-of-9 field goal tries, including all three 3-point attempts.  It was the second straight season-high point performance for Brown, who had 18 points in UCO's 103-96 win over Mid-America Christian Monday.

The Bronchos blistered the nets all night in shooting a season-high 68.0 percent (34-of-50) and held a 46-22 scoring advantage in the paint en route to picking up their fourth straight win.

"We did a great job of getting the ball inside to our big guys and of attacking the basket," said head coach Terry Evans after UCO improved to 8-2.  "The guys were aggressive and it paid off for us.  We're playing better and just need to keep working hard."

The Bronchos had two other players in double figures as Mahlon Jones scored 17 points along with having game highs for rebounds (eight) and assists (six), while Trai Jordan chipped in 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.

UCO trailed only once, at 3-1 just 33 seconds into the contest.  Jordan quickly tied it with a layup, Wright followed an LU miss with two free throws and Jones made a driving layup after a 10-second violation to put the Bronchos on top 7-3 just over a minute later.

The lead grew to 11 at 17-6 on a Reggie Sloan 3-pointer at the 14:44 mark and UCO was up by as many as 16 before the Lions clawed to within 12 (44-32) by halftime.

It was an 11-point lead at 60-49 when the Bronchos used a 13-4 run to put the game away for good.

Cal Andrews started that spurt with a 10-foot jumper, Jacob Strassle added a 3-pointer from the top of the key and Wright scored the final five points to give UCO a 73-54 cushion with 9:57 remaining.

LU never threatened again as the Bronchos cruised in.

UCO returns to action Sunday, hosting league rival Lincoln at 2 p.m. in a game that was originally scheduled for Saturday.
