Bronchos Rout Lincoln

Box Score

EDMOND (Dec. 7) –
Central Oklahoma overcame a cold start with a red-hot shooting exhibition that carried the Bronchos to a 93-70 trouncing of Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rival Lincoln Sunday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

UCO made just four of its first 13 shots in falling behind 13-9, but responded by hitting 14-of-16 field goals over the next 11 minutes in roaring to a 44-24 lead en route to its fifth straight win.

Cal Andrews made a trio of 3-pointers during that devastating stretch and the Bronchos were never threatened again as they improved to 9-2 on the season and 2-0 in league play.

"We missed some easy shots early, but we forced some turnovers and that got our offense going," head coach Terry Evans said.  "Our guys are doing a great job of moving the ball and finding the open man."

Balance was once again the key for UCO, with eight players scoring at least eight points and five in double figures.  The Bronchos had a huge 36-10 edge in bench scoring, outrebounded LU 37-24 and ended up shooting 55.6 percent (35-of-63) from the field.

Andrews finished with four treys and shared team-high scoring honors with Jacob Strassle, who went 4-of-5 from long range.  Mahlon Jones added 13 points, Seth Heckart 12 along with four assists and three steals and Philip Brown had 10 points and five rebounds.

Trai Jordan chipped in eight points and a game-high eight rebounds for UCO, with Jarred Bairstow and Reggie Sloan also scoring eight points each.

The Bronchos didn't take the lead for good until Jordan converted a layup off a Brown steal and assist to make it 21-20 at the 9:08 mark, but Andrews bombed in consecutive 3-pointers as that quickly grew to 29-20.

It was a 33-24 edge when UCO took total control with an 11-0 run.  Darrius Bryson started that surge with a layup, Strassle tipped in a rare miss, Jones made a layup after a Jordan steal and Andrews rained in another trey to push the margin to 20 (44-24) at the 2:42 mark.

The Bronchos took a 19-point cushion (48-29) into the break and never led by less than 16 in the final 20 minutes.

UCO doesn't return to action until traveling to Warrensburg, Mo. Dec. 18 to take on MIAA rival and defending NCAA Division II national champion Central Missouri.
