UCO Falls To No. 19 Jennies

Box Score

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Nov. 8) –
Central Oklahoma forced No. 19-ranked Central Missouri to a fifth set before dropping a tough Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association decision here Saturday afternoon.

The league-leading Jennies prevailed 19-25, 25-16, 25-15, 23-25, 15-12 in snapping UCO's seven-match winning streak.  The Bronchos fell to 26-5 overall and 15-5 in the league.

"We played hard and it was a tough match to lose," head coach Edgar Miraku said.  "We did a great job coming back the way we did after losing the second and third sets, but we just came up a little short."

Barbara Jackson led UCO with 16 kills and 19 digs, while Sabetha Young had 13 kills.  The Bronchos also got nine kills and three blocks from Juliette Smith, eight kills and four blocks from Allison Barr and 27 digs from Whitney Gifford.

The Bronchos trailed 8-7 in the first set before scoring five unanswered points to take a 12-7 lead, going in front to stay on Barr's solo block.  Jackson had six kills and Barr three as UCO went on to take the early lead in the match.

Central Missouri jumped out to big leads in each of the next two sets to put the Bronchos on the ropes, but UCO responded with a clutch fourth-set win that was close all the way.

Young broke a 22-22 tie with a kill and then ended it with another as the Bronchos forced the fifth set.

The Jennies never trailed in the deciding set and were up 13-7 when UCO scored four straight points to get close, but Central Missouri finally closed it out.

The Bronchos return home to close out the regular season, hosting Southwest Baptist Tuesday and Pittsburg State Saturday.
