DENTON, Texas (Nov. 21) –
A second-half shooting slump turned a 10-point lead into a seven-point deficit and Central Oklahoma went on to drop a 67-60 decision to Midwestern State here Friday on the first day of the Marriott Champions Circle Pioneer Premiere.

The Bronchos built a 39-29 lead early in the second half before going stone-cold from the field, making just one of their next 13 shots while committing five turnovers as the Mustangs went on a 25-8 run to go ahead 54-47 with 8:10 left to play.

UCO got no closer than five the rest of the way and fell to 2-2 on the young season in having a two-game winning streak ended.  The Bronchos return Saturday to face host Texas Woman's at 6:30 p.m.

"We played pretty well the first 20 minutes or so and then we couldn't make a basket," head coach Guy Hardaker said.  "We did a lot of good things, but the bottom line is we didn't shoot very well and we got clobbered on the boards."

UCO shot just 27.3 percent (9-of-33) in the second half and 35.3 percent (24-of-68) for the game while getting outrebounded 47-33.

Julia Mason led the Bronchos with 22 points and six rebounds on 10-of-15 shooting from the field.  Kylie Mayes added 12 points and Haley Weathers nine, but leading scorer and rebounder Olivia Mason went scoreless with just two rebounds before fouling out in only 13 minutes of action.

UCO fell behind 5-0 early and was down 11-8 before getting four points from J. Mason and a 3-pointer from Weathers in a 9-0 run to take a 17-11 lead midway through the first half.

MSU went back in front 24-23, but J. Mason had a pair of buckets as the Bronchos ended the half with a 10-2 spurt to grab a 33-26 lead at the break.

The lead grew to 10 at 39-29 on Weathers' layup with 18:28 remaining before UCO went cold and the Mustangs started their comeback.
