Bronchos Drop League Opener

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (Dec. 5) –
Central Oklahoma was outscored 21-1 at the free throw line and had a four-game winning streak stopped in dropping an 88-77 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association decision to Lindenwood here Thursday night.
 
The Bronchos attempted just two free throws, making one, while the Lions were 21-of-30 from the foul line.  LU went 10-of-12 from the charity stripe in the final 1:13 to keep UCO at bay.
 
Cal Andrews made six 3-pointers in scoring 18 points while adding seven rebounds to lead the Bronchos.  Josh Gibbs had 16 points and 10 rebounds, Aaron Anderson went 6-of-6 from the field in a 13-point outing and Jarrod McDaniel chipped in 11 points and six assists.
 
UCO fell to 6-2 overall and 0-1 in the league.  The Bronchos move on to Jefferson City, Mo. Saturday to face MIAA foe Lincoln at 3:30 p.m.
 
The game was close most of the first half and it was tied 18-18 with 9:12 remaining after Philip Brown hit a short jumper for the Bronchos, but Lindenwood went on a 14-5 run to open up a 32-23 lead before settling for a 37-33 halftime advantage.
 
UCO never regained the lead, though it was just a two-point deficit at 58-56 following a Gibbs layup at the 11:08 mark.  The Lions answered with a 10-2 run to go up 68-58 with 8:36 remaining and the lead was 11 (73-62) at 5:01.
 
The Bronchos made it a seven-point game (78-71) on another Gibbs layup with 1:58 left to play, but LU scored their last 10 points from the free throw line to stay safely in front.
