UCO Rallies For Exhibition Win

CHICKASHA, Okla. (Nov. 5) –
Nic Combs made five clutch free throws in the final 24 seconds and Central Oklahoma outscored Science and Arts of Oklahoma 13-2 over the final four minutes to rally for a 91-86 exhibition win here Tuesday night.

The Bronchos trailed 84-78 before rallying, with Combs making 5-of-6 foul shots down the stretch to seal it after UCO moved in front.

Philip Brown started the comeback with a tip-in, Jarrod McDaniel made one of two free throws and Seth Heckart hit a pair of charity tosses to pull the Bronchos within one before McDaniel's driving layup gave UCO the lead for good at 85-84 with 46 seconds left.

Josh Gibbs made one of two free throws at 0:33 and Combs one of two at 0:24 to make it 87-84 before the Drovers scored their final two points to pull within 87-86 with 10 seconds left. Combs was fouled at 0:08 and he made both foul shots to up the lead to 89-86 before making two more at 0:01 after USAO missed a 3-point try.

Gibbs led the Bronchos with 30 points and eight rebounds, hitting 12-of-18 shots with three 3-pointers. McDaniel finished with 16 points, Brown with 14 and Heckart with 11. Aaron Anderson added nine points and 10 rebounds and Combs eight points.

UCO survived despite shooting just 51.2 percent (22-of-43) from the free throw line.

The Bronchos led 46-43 at halftime on Gibbs' last-second 3-pointer and went on to take a 50-43 lead early in the second half before USAO went on a 14-4 run to move in front 57-54 and the Drovers kept the lead until UCO's late rally.

The Bronchos will play an Alumni team at 7 p.m. Thursday in their final tune-up before opening the season next Tuesday at home against Southwestern Christian.
