DENTON, Texas (Nov. 24) –
Another poor shooting performance led to a second straight Central Oklahoma loss in the Marriott Champions Circle Pioneer Premiere here Sunday afternoon at Kitty Magee Arena.

The Bronchos missed their last 15 shots of the first half in falling into an 18-point hole at the break and it didn't get much better in the final 20 minutes as host Texas Woman's rolled to an 81-53 victory.

UCO ended up shooting a mere 26.3 percent (15-of-57) from the field and made just 3-of-25 attempts (12.0 percent) from beyond the 3-point arc to complete a dismal shooting exhibition in the two-day event.

The Bronchos, who lost to Tarleton State 72-62 Saturday, shot only 29.9 percent in the two games and were 8-of-55 (14.5 percent) on 3-point tries.

"Obviously we didn't shoot the ball well and it's hard to win when you can't put the ball in the basket," head coach Guy Hardaker said. "It was a frustrating weekend, but we just have to put it behind us and keep trying to get better."

Julia Mason scored a game-high 16 points to pace UCO, while Jill Bryan had 15 points and six rebounds in making the all-tournament team. Olivia Mason pulled down 10 rebounds.

UCO trailed 38-20 at intermission and opened the second half with its first 3-pointer of game after 11 misses when Britney Morgan drilled a trey from the top of the key. Jill Bryan's follow shot a minute later cut the deficit to 38-25 and it was still a 13-point game (30-27) after two Julia Mason free throws with 17:12 remaining.

The Bronchos then missed their next five shots – including three on one possession – and TWU went on a 7-0 run to extend its lead to 20 (47-27) at the 15:14 mark in ending any hopes of a UCO comeback.

Central led only twice in the game, at 2-0 on two Morgan free throws 12 seconds into the contest and 4-3 on two Olivia Mason foul shots a minute later.

TWU came back with an 8-2 run to go ahead 11-6 and the closest UCO got the rest of the half was three at 14-11 on a back-door layup by Tarrington Oakes off a Julia Mason feed at the 11:11 mark.

The Bronchos scored only nine points the rest of the half and all that came from the charity stripe as UCO miss-fired 15 straight times from the field, including four layups and six 3-pointers.

It was still just a nine-point deficit at 29-20 after Jill Bryan made one of two free throws with 2:08 remaining, but the Pioneers scored nine unanswered points in the final 1:28 – capped by a banked-in 40-foot buzzer-beater by Taylor Swift – to grab the big 18-point cushion.

UCO, now 4-2 on the season, returns home Wednesday to host intrastate rival Southwestern Oklahoma at 5:30 p.m.
