OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 14) –
Josh Gibbs scored four of his 20 points in a 13-1 second-half run that put Central Oklahoma in control and the Bronchos rolled past Oklahoma City 93-78 at Abe Lemons Arena here Thursday night.

It was the second win in as many games for UCO, which goes to Bethany to face Southern Nazarene at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Gibbs added 16 rebounds to his 20-point night as he dominated on the boards for the second straight game following a 21-rebound outing in Tuesday's season-opening win over Southwestern Christian.

Aaron Anderson had 18 points, five rebounds and three assists for UCO, while freshman Jacob Richardson went 7-of-7 at the free throw line in scoring 16 points. Seth Heckart added 10 points, with Jarrod McDaniel chipping in eight points and seven assists.

"It's good any time you can come in here and get a win," head coach Terry Evans said. "We played pretty good at times, but we didn't shoot the ball very well from outside and that's something we need to do better."

The Bronchos hit only 8-of-24 long-range shots (33.3 percent), but committed just 13 turnovers and outrebounded the Stars 50-41.

UCO never trailed after Anderson's slam six seconds into the game and led by as many as 11 in the first half before the Stars trimmed the deficit to 56-55 four minutes into the second half.

The Bronchos responded with the game-deciding scoring spurt that Heckart started with a 3-pointer from the corner. Gibbs made his own follow shot, McDaniel drove in for a baseline layup and Philip Brown dunked off a McDaniel pass to quickly push UCO's lead back to double digits at 65-55.

OCU ended that run with a free throw, but Gibbs converted a fast-break layup and Jacob Strassle made a follow shot to up the lead to 69-56 with 12:09 left to play.

The Stars got no closer than seven the rest of the way and UCO coasted in.

Anderson dunked off a McDaniel feed just six seconds into the contest to help stake UCO to a quick 7-0 lead, with Brown converting a layup and Gibbs a 3-pointer from the wing following OCU misses.

The Stars came back to tie it at 11-all and UCO's lead was 20-19 before Nic Combs drilled a trey from the corner to ignite a 9-2 run that put the Bronchos on top 29-21 midway through the half.

UCO pushed its lead to 11 at 40-29 following two Anderson free throws at the 6:10 mark and it was a 12-point cushion (51-39) with 2:14 left in the half after Richardson went coast-to-coast for a layup after making a steal.

The Stars scored the final six points of the half to pull within 51-45 at the intermission, opened the second half with back-to-back buckets to cut UCO's lead to two (51-49) and were within one (56-55) when the Bronchos took control.
