JOPLIN, Mo. (March 10) –
Kacie Edwards delivered a dramatic seventh inning home run in the opener and Rachael Steverson hurled a three-hit shutout in the nightcap to lead streaking Central Oklahoma past Missouri Southern here Saturday afternoon.

Edwards cranked out a three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to rally the Bronchos to a 6-5 first-game win before Steverson dominated in the pitching circle during a 6-0 second-game rout as UCO stretched its school-record winning streak to 17 in a row.

The Bronchos had 13 hits in each game and improved to 19-3 on the season in completing a two-day, four-game sweep of future Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rivals Pittsburg State and MSSU.

UCO returns to action Friday when it hosts Lincoln for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.

The long winning streak looked in danger when the Bronchos entered the seventh inning of the opener trailing 5-3, but Kayce Raines quickly got things going with a lead-off double.

Nathalie Timmermans followed with a single to put runners on the corners and Edwards came through with a three-run blast over the right field fence to put UCO in front.

Amanda McClelland then put the Lady Lions down in order in the bottom of the seventh to seal the come-from-behind win.

Edwards went 3-for-4 to lead UCO's 13-hit attack, while Timmermans, Rains, Hannah Justus and Macy McKay had two hits apiece.

The Bronchos trailed 3-0 after four innings, but tied it in the top of the fifth as Timmermans belted a two-run homer and Raines added an RBI single.  MSSU went back in front with two runs in the bottom of that frame and it stayed that way until the seventh.

Steverson overwhelmed the Lady Lions in the second contest, scattering three hits while walking just one and striking out four in improving to 10-2 on the year.

UCO got the only runs it would need in the second on run-scoring hits by McKay and Raines, then broke the game open with four more in the fourth.  Edwards led that outburst with a two-run single, while Timmermans and Brittany Weaver had RBI doubles.

Timmermans, Edwards, Weaver and McKay all had two hits for the Bronchos.
